Tennis shoes don’t pique my interest often, unless they have a giant swoosh, fluorescent panels and an ATC moniker or a pump system, but somehow this ‘Tonal Gum’ version of the Reebok Club C has grown on me. Read on to find out more.
The craziest tennis shoes, or any shoes period, are from the 90s, but the Reebok Club C was born in 1984 as the Revenge Plus (cool name), a performance tennis shoe worn by tennis players like Michael Chang. The Revenge Plus has since been rebranded as the Club C (boring name), for Champion, and brought back as part of Reebok’s 2016 ‘Year of the Court’ campaign, featuring this amazing solebox collab. This shoe was also used to dress infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar in the hit Netflix series, Narcos. This however, may have been a decision based on style, rather than historical accuracy.
All that being said, this particular version rendered in really nice (for the price) grey suede is a far cry from anything you’ll see on a tennis court. Might just go with the name and wear them to a club. EVA midsoles and a terry lining make these feel as plush on the inside as they look from the outside and at 8,999 INR they don’t break the bank either.
I like to live dangerously but if you like your suede shoes, I would never take these near water without putting a coat of protector on.
